Sometimes you just crave the heat of Thai food, the crunch of Japanese katsu, or the savory flavors of Korean barbecue. We know how it feels! The umami-rich dishes often beckon us to our favorite Asian restaurants, or to call for take out.
But we have nine recipes that will satisfy your hankering for ethnic cuisine – and they are easy to make at home.
Using ingredients like our Wagyu short ribs, duck breast, buffalo, and maitake mushrooms, you can make a better version of your favorite dishes in your own kitchen. The techniques are simple, and only a few specific ingredients are needed. So have a look, pick a recipe to try, and let us know how you like it!
1. Whole Roasted Maitake with Miso Butter
This simple method of whole roasting hen-of-the-woods mushrooms yields both crispy petals and tender hearts. The compound miso butter adds richness and gives the deliciously earthy mushrooms an umami boost.
2. Duck Wontons with Spicy Hoisin Dipping Sauce
Our rich duck rillettes make a delicious filling for fried dumplings with the addition of a few simple ingredients. Because the filling is completely cooked, these wontons can be assembled ahead of time and quickly fried just before serving.
3. Thai Salad
This colorful, crunchy salad hits all the right notes – sweet, spicy, tangy, and rich. We used Wagyu strip steak but pork tenderloin, buffalo steak, or duck breast would be equally delicious.
4. Kalbi Ssam Burgers
These veggie-packed Korean-style buffalo burgers are heavy on flavor and light on your waistline. We ditched the buns for fresh lettuce wraps and topped with a sweet and spicy kimchi slaw and a zesty chili mayo.
5. Kalbi Style Grilled Hanger Steak
Create the smoky sweet flavors of your favorite Korean hibachi restaurant at home with this super easy recipe. Start with our delicious hanger steak for best results. The one specialty ingredient you will need is gochujang, a savory, sweet and spicy fermented chili sauce that is a staple in Korean cooking.
6. Katsu Burger
Start with our Wagyu burgers to make this recipe better than anything at a restaurant. Crunchy panko coating, and the addition of tangy slaw with Asian pear, and homemade Japanese-style barbecue sauce make our katsu burger that much more special.
7. Five Spice Duck Breast
Heady Chinese five spice and a sticky-sweet sauce spiked with star anise make a wonderful complement to rich duck breast.
8. Boneless Wagyu Korean Short Ribs
Our Wagyu beef short ribs aren’t just for braising. The highly-marbled meat makes excellent Korean-style BBQ when sliced thin against the grain, marinated overnight, then grilled hot & fast. Make sure you have kimchi to serve alongside.
9. Lamb Tenderloin Stir-Fry
